SLAPPING BACK AT ODELL

Arrest warrant issued after run-in with Superdome security

- BY CHARLES MCDONALD

Odell Beckham can't stay out of the headlines.

The former Giant and current Browns receiver has had a simple battery arrest warrant issued for him after he slapped a Superdome security guard on his backside following LSU's victory in the national championship game over Clemson.

Beckham, a former LSU star, was in the locker room after the game celebrating with the team. The guard was seen talking to players — reportedly to get them to stop smoking cigars — when Beckham slapped him. The video of the incident went viral on social media.

“We are aware of the incident and have been in touch with Odell and his representatives on the matter,” the Browns said in a statement. “They are cooperating with the proper authorities to appropriately address the situation.”

NOLA.com reported that the authorities originally sought a warrant for misdemeanor sexual battery, but a judge declined the charge.

The punishment for simple battery in Louisiana is a maximum fine of $1,000, a maximum of six months in prison, or both.

The security guard — identified as a lieutenant on the Superdome security staff — reportedly wanted to punch Beckham after the slap but changed his mind “due to the jovial atmosphere of the locker room.”

Two days later he went to New Orleans police saying he wanted to press charges.

Beckham had quite an active night after LSU won the championship.

He was seen giving cash to some players, including LSU wide receivers Justin Jefferson and Jontre Kirklin. LSU originally said the money Beckham was spreading around was fake but then Joe Burrow — the star QB who is likely the No. 1 overall pick in this spring's NFL draft — confirmed that Beckham gave him cash.

Earlier Monday night, an officer escorted Beckham away from LSU's band after he was trying to get them to play “Neck” during the game. Beckham was also seen trying to post up former Utah Jazz legend Karl Malone on the field postgame.

“I'm not a student athlete anymore, so I can say yeah.” Burrow said on a podcast when asked if Beckham gave him money after the game.
