“Waiting for Anya”
Drama, PG-13. Based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, a young shepherd (Noah Schnapp, “Stranger Things”) and a widow (Anjelica Huston) help Jewish kids cross Southern France into Spain to escape the horrors of World War II. With Jean Reno.

“Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island” Horror, PG-13. This is not your grandmother’s tranquil tropical resort: The popular ’70s TV show is turned into a suspenseful, violent adventure with each guest granted one fantasy that goes horribly awry. With Michael Peña, Lucy Hale, Maggie Q and Austin Stowell.
“Downhill”
Dramedy, R. A husband and wife (Will Ferrell, Julia Louis-Dreyfus) reevaluate their relationship and their existence after their family survives an avalanche. With Miranda Otto and Zach Wood (“Silicon Valley”).
“The Photograph” Drama/romance, PG-13. As a woman (Issa Rae, “Insecure”) starts to fall in love, she learns more about her mother’s love life. LaKeith Stanfield (“Get Out”) and Chelsea Peretti (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”) also star.
“Sonic the Hedgehog” Action/comedy, PG. Another Sega video game is adapted for the big screen: The little blue alien (voiced by Ben Schwartz, “Parks and Recreation”) teams up with a human (James Marsden, “Hop”) to stop the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey, who else?). Watch out, Baby Yoda! Tika Sumpter co-stars.

“Emma”
