Rose starts on Sunday: report

- HORNETS KNICKS Leon Rose takes over soon.

The Knicks need to do two things from this day forward: Start Mitchell Robinson, and give Allonzo Trier steady minutes.

The pair of second-year players put the team on their backs and helped close a 15point deficit in the second half of the Knicks’ 107-101 loss in Charlotte against the Hornets on Wednesday.

Both Julius Randle and Bobby Portis had exceptional nights of their own, but Robinson was the most dominant Knicks player on the floor. He controlled the game, one alley-oop stuff or resounding block at a time, to the tune of 12 points, 15 rebounds and three rejections on the night.

Trier, who may be the Knicks’ most talented scorer, made his second straight appearance after not playing in 13 consecutive games. Yes, he’s fully healthy, which he showed by lighting up the Hornets for 15 points in 15 minutes.

One great game from two young players, though, did not make another Knicks’ loss easier to swallow. Rookie RJ Barrett had more missed shots (9) than points scored (5) and started the night 0-of-6 from the field. Kevin Knox scored four points in 23 minutes. Dennis

WASHINGTON — The Leon Rose era is around the corner.

Rose will start as Knicks president on Sunday, nearly one month after his predecessor Steve Mills was fired, according to the New York Times.

Rose, the longtime power agent at Creative Artists Agency, will then be tasked with assembling a staff and preparing for the draft and free agency. The reason for the delay was that Rose was taking care of his clients and duties as an agent before decertifying.

The Knicks are enduring a seventh consecutive losing season and Rose will represent the fifth team president since Isiah Thomas was fired in 2008. Rose, who is from Cherry Hill, N.J., is expected to consider Tom Thibodeau for head coach. Thibodeau is a CAA client and worked closely with Rose.

Another CAA client, Allan Houston, is expected to be retained in the front office with increased responsibilities, according to a source. The Knicks currently employ several others in the scouting department and front office who were either holdovers from previous eras or were brought in by GM Scott Perry.

The player development department, led by Craig Robinson, has been the major blemish on this regime.

Rose has represented some of the biggest stars in the NBA, including LeBron James, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony and Joel Embiid. His hire is part of a movement by NBA teams to place agents in executive roles, with success stories already in Golden State with Bob Myers, Utah with Justin Zanik and the Lakers with Rob Pelinka.
