Manhattan: As a registered dietitian-nutritionist who has worked with inner-city children and families for over 30 years, I feel compelled to respond to “Nondairy milk pushed for schools” (March 4). I pride myself on providing sound nutrition information that is evidence-based, and supported by the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans. I don’t know where Eric Adams gets his information, but it’s wrong.

Milk has no added trans-fat — the only type of concern — and milk in New York City schools is either low-fat or non-fat. Moreover, even full-fat dairy foods are now associated with positive — not negative — health outcomes.

Although a small percentage of the population is choosing to move towards plant-based dairy alternatives, an “alternative” is not an “equivalent” and does not necessarily serve the needs of children. None have the nutrient composition and quality of protein that approaches the level of dairy milk. Check labels.

No borough president, or any politician, should try to exploit and falsely victimize the health needs of children based on personal opinion to advance his profile and political career. Look to pediatricians and registered dietitian-nutritionists for sound dietary and healthy eating advice, especially when it comes to our children. Dr. Keith Ayoob

Get your flu shot!

Manhattan: People die every day of common influenza in the United States. I had the flu this year, as did my son and my nephew. But let’s panic about the coronavirus? It’s good to be aware and vigilant, but let’s not forget that the flu is also deadly.

Rebranding

Yonkers: I have a great idea for all the fans of Corona beer. We’re going to change the name of the virus to John. Unfortunately, we’ll have to quarantine everyone named John, but you beer lovers can go back to drinking your Corona. Suzanne Hayes Kelly

Fake news wars

Glen Head, L.I.: Once again I must correct an obvious lie printed in the March 6 Voice of the People. Voicer Andre’ Carl Jones wrote that President Trump “fired all those doctors and cut budgets to all the health agencies.” Total lie! Once again, a Voicer has quoted fake news CNN and MSNBC. Trump also restricted all flights from China, an action that had the mainstream media calling him racist and xenophobic. Trump was on top of the coronavirus long before anyone else. Then, Jones praised Barack Obama for his “role in

fortifying those institutions.” Really? The truth is that it took months and lots of American deaths from the swine flu for Obama to do anything. Robert Kralick

Media ally

Dover, Del.: In this day and age, with so much false information flying around everywhere, sometimes called “news,” we should not take for granted our free press. We should appreciate all reporters who bring us the truth, whether about politics, state, local or world events, criminal justice issues, science, whatever the topic. Freedom of the press is perhaps our most precious right, and we must protect it with vigilance. Thank you to all the reporters bringing us the truth; to those spouting lies, shame on you!

Signing off

Sea Cliff, L.I.: I remember tuning in to CNN in the early 1980s and seeing Bobbie Battista at the anchor desk and thinking, “Wow, this is something pretty great.” For many years she kept it real, professional and classy. Rest in peace, Bobbie Battista. You will always be an innovator and inspiration to all the journalism students that hope for their chance to pursue and shine at their craft as did you. Lynne Larsen

Trump-et blower

Brooklyn: Remember how the DNC and Hillary didn’t listen to us liberals and Bernie-or-bust voters in 2016? How’d that work out? Don’t say we didn’t warn you. We’re taking it up a thousand notches in 2020. If fake GOP Trojan horse Joe Biden is the nominee, we are going to vote Trump, because at least Trump is Bern-ing down our corrupt government. You old people murdered America and we young people literally have no future left. Do you fools not know how revolutions begin? This house cannot be saved. We are never going back to the old status quo. Trump is pouring gasoline over all of it and we’re ready to be soldiers against Wall Street and Trumpism.

The elders

Westport, Conn.: At 92 years old, I totally agree with Voicer J. Rod Vincent. Remembering Hitler and the ultimate disaster for Germany and the rest of the world, I fear that we are headed for a dictatorship. Could there be a Schickelgruber in the family tree?

Four step plan

Whitestone: The Astros should just follow the Republican template. One, we are not stealing signs. Two, even if we were stealing signs, it’s not illegal. Three, we’ve always admitted to stealing signs. Four, we never said stealing signs was illegal. Never mind that: What about Hillary’s emails?

A cry for change

Manhattan: Sadness etched the face of the woman behind the ticket counter. She carried on, working. She could have said, “Death in my family” to my inquiry. Instead, she showed me the church memorial card for her poet nephew who lived and died down South and the poignant farewell message he penned two years before he was shot in the head. He was 18 years old. Gone. Resting in peace. It is one year later. Gun violence is insidious, it lurks in safe corners. So I ask our governors and senators to raise America from the quagmire of gun violence. And I say to

our law enforcement, we need you. If we criticize you, it is because we want you to be super-human, recognizing our individual rights to freedom and liberty while quelling those who would snatch our lives. Do I ask for too much? Susan A. Stark

Apologist

AP

Rocky Point, L.I.: Sorry for being a generation that has done very little to protect the innocent from gun violence. Sorry for being a generation that is controlled by corporations, lobbyists, special interest groups and others with influence. Sorry for being a generation that divides and fails to unify. Sorry for being a generation that encourages and excites hatred. Sorry for being a generation that pollutes the air and the waters of our beautiful Earth. Sorry for being a generation that shares, cares and has concerns for others. Sorry for being a generation that sacrifices and protects others. Sorry for being a generation that encourages hope, faith, peace and love. Sorry for being a generation that finds the common ground for the common good for all. Sorry for being a generation that is for truth, justice, honor and integrity. Sal Vella
