sacrifices, sometimes small and sometimes very big. But this is a time where we must take responsibility … we need to understand that all of us need to adhere to the measures.”

The governor of Puglia, in the south of Italy, urged people to stay put.

“I speak to you as if you were my children, my brothers, my nephews and nieces: stop and go back,” Michele Emiliano wrote on Face“Get book. off at the first train station, do not catch planes … turn your cars around, get off your buses. Do not bring the Lombard, Veneto and Emilia epidemic to Puglia.”

The countrywide quarantine is scheduled to last until at least April 3. Anyone who does not abide by the restrictions faces up to three months in prison and a fine of about $230.

Sen. Ted Cruz announced Sunday he is in “self-quarantine” after learning someone he interacted with at the Conservative Political Action Conference has tested positive for coronavirus and is showing symptoms.

“Last night I was informed that 10 days ago at CPAC I briefly interacted with an individual who is currently symptomatic and has tested positive for COVID-19,” Cruz said in a statement Sunday. “That interaction consisted of a brief conversation and a handshake.”

Cruz (R-Texas) himself said he feels no symptoms.

“I’m not experiencing any symptoms, and I feel fine and healthy,” Cruz (inset) continued. “Given that the interaction was 10 days ago, that the average incubation period is five, six days, that the interaction was for less than a minute, and that I have no current symptoms, the medical authorities have advised me that the odds of transmission from the other individual to me were extremely low.”

He said his doctors had told him that testing doesn’t work unless someone is showing symptoms, and that “my brief interaction with the individual does not meet the CDC criteria for self-quarantine.”

He also said that his “medical authorities” had informed him that the chances of Cruz having passed the virus on in the 10 days since the meeting of conservative activists and politicians, which took place Feb. 26-29, are slim to none.

“Nevertheless, out of an abundance of caution” and to give constituents “peace of mind, I have decided to remain at my home in Texas this week, until a full 14 days have passed since the CPAC interaction,” Cruz said.

The American Conservative Union, which hosted the conference, announced on Saturday that one of CPAC’s attendees had tested positive. President Trump and Vice President Pence were also at the conference, but did not interact with the infected individual, reported CNN.
