Freak injury: Giannis suffers knee sprain

-

Reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has a minor knee sprain and will miss at least the Milwaukee Bucks' next two games.

The Bucks said Sunday that Antetokounmpo had an MRI and was examined by team doctor William Raasch. The evaluation showed a minor joint capsule sprain of Antetokounmpo's left knee.

The 6-foot-11 forward misses the two remaining games on the Bucks' trip — Sunday at Phoenix and tonight at Denver. His status for the Bucks' home game Thursday against Boston will be determined.

“The way they described it to me is we'll see how the next few days go and kind of evaluate him and see where he is then,” Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said.

VIRUS FALLOUT

The NBA, NHL, Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer are all weighing plans to restrict access to locker rooms as a precaution to protect players from exposure to the coronavirus, as concern over the situation escalates.

Further, the NBA has told its teams that it has until Tuesday to develop a “plan to limit the number of team and arena staff who interact with players” as part of their response strategies. NBA teams were also told to have an arrangement with an infectious disease specialist.

“In light of the growing community spread of COVID-19 in the United States, and the emergence of community spread in Canada, we continue to closely monitor this situation and are having regular conversations with infectious disease and public health experts, including the CDC,” the NBA told teams.

LOGANO TAKES PHOENIX

Joey Logano raved all weekend about the new “Awesome Sauce” at Phoenix Raceway, which was the driver's nickname for the substance that was put on the mile oval to improve grip for tires and make for better racing.

The sauce did its job during an entertaining show Sunday and so did Logano, who raced to his second NASCAR Cup Series win in three weeks by holding off Kevin Harvick during a two-lap overtime restart.
