Curfews for teens in beat

- BY NOAH GOLDBERG

The teen accused of stripping the sneakers off the feet of a helpless 15-year-old girl as she was being brutally beaten by a mob of teens in Brooklyn last week was arraigned Monday as a judge set curfews for several of the other young suspects in the attack.

“He grabbed the victim’s legs and pulled the sneakers off. The defendant is the person that was walking away with the complainant’s sneakers,” said a Brooklyn prosecutor about the 14-year-old suspect, who stood before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Ruth Shillingford.

Shillingford corrected “defendant” to “youthful offender.”

The court proceedings came two days after all 11 teens arrested so far were released without bail for their alleged roles in the shocking Crown Heights incident caught on video. The Brooklyn district attorney had requested $10,000 bail Saturday for each of them, who range in age from 14 to 17.

Seven of the teens appeared in court Monday and had curfews set for when school gets out during the week, starting at either 3 p.m. or 4:30 p.m.

A horde of at least a dozen teens were caught on surveillance video descending on the victim at Utica Ave. and Sterling Place about 4:10 p.m. last Thursday. The girl curls up in a fetal position on the sidewalk as she’s repeatedly kicked and stomped.

One attacker is seen pulling her Air Jordans off and walking away. The girl, whose cell phone and debit card were also stolen, cops said, was taken to Kings County Hospital after the beating.

The teens are variously charged with robbery and gang assault.

The Brooklyn DA declined to request bail in any of the cases Monday, after having the bail requests rejected Saturday.
