Asian woman spat on, assaulted in E. Side virus bias

- BY THOMAS TRACY

An Asian woman walking in Manhattan was attacked by a psycho stranger who blamed her for coronavirus, spitting on her and tearing out her hair, cops said Tuesday.

The Monday evening clash is at least the fifth anti-Asian hate crime in the city related to the coronavirus crisis.

The 34-year-old victim was confronted on E. 25th St. and Madison Ave. about 6:15 p.m., cops said.

The victim told police she was walking to the subway station as she made her way home when a woman jumped her.

“You’re the reason why the coronavirus is here!” the assailant screamed as she bumped the victim, then spat on her and pulled her hair, according to a criminal complaint.

Police nabbed Lynn Ferguson, 33, of the Bronx, shortly after the incident, charging her with assault as a hate crime and aggravated harassment as a hate crime.

The victim was not seriously harmed, though Ferguson still had a tuft of the victim’s hair in her hand when she was arrested, the complaint alleges.

Police also charged her with drug possession after cops said three hypodermic needles and half a joint were found in her purse, but prosecutors didn’t pursue those charges at her arraignment Tuesday night.

Ferguson was ordered released without bail Tuesday night.

On Friday, police arrested a 13-yearold boy for kicking a 59-year-old Asian man to the ground in Harlem on March 9.

“F—- you, Chinese coronavirus!” the teen screamed as the victim fell to the sidewalk.

The victim suffered cuts to his knees and hands.

The teen surrendered to police with his parent after cops released surveillance images from the attack.

On Thursday, a man dressed head to toe in camouflage stormed up to a 47year-old Asian man with his 10-yearold son and demanded to know why he wasn’t wearing a mask.

The suspect cursed at the victim then pushed his head before walking away. The victim was not harmed, cops said.
