pandemic.

“MLB is on a break. Time to go to work for others. Join me in generosity… I'm pledging 5 dollars per day that we're off of work and will contribute to this fund weekly until I'm back at work. Each week I will donate the entirety of the fund to a specific cause or person in need. If it's just my donation that's fine, but I wanted to open this up to others as well,” Balkovec said.

She titled her page Humans for Humans During COVID.

“Give what you can. If you can't give money, give your time or your services,” Balkovec said. “If you can't give your time, call your Mom, eat your veggies and stay away from other people. Do your part for humans.”

As of Monday morning the site had raised $970.

REDS EMPLOYEE TESTS POSITIVE

An employee who worked at the Cincinnati Reds spring training complex in Goodyear, Arizona has tested positive for the new coronavirus, the ballclub announced Wednesday.

The employee lives in Arizona and has been self-quarantined, along with other members of the Reds staff who were in close contact.

The employee worked at the complex from Feb. 29 through March 14.

Major League Baseball has shut down spring training and pushed back the start of the season until at least mid-May because of the pandemic.

While players in the NBA and the NHL have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, no Major League Baseball player is known to have been infected. Two New York Yankees minor leaguers have tested positive for the virus.

On Tuesday, the Ottawa Senators announced that one of their players — who wasn't identified — had tested positive, the first known case in the NHL.

The virus cases only mild or moderate symptoms for most people, such as a cough and fever. Older adults and those with existing health problems can develop more severe illness, including pneumonia.

The vast majority of people recover from the virus. Those with a mild illness recover in about two weeks, according to the World Health Organization, while those with more severe forms make take three to six weeks.
