Dawson to join Disney’s ‘Mandalorian’ saga
Rosario Dawson is joining the “Star Wars” Universe.
The “Rent” actress is joining the cast of “The Mandalorian” for its highly anticipated second season. Dawson will play Ahsoka Tano, a fan favorite character from the “Star Wars” animated TV shows on the popular Disney+ show, Variety reported.
It will mark the first live-action portrayal of the character, who played Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi apprentice on the animated “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars: Rebels.”
In 2017, Dawson replied “Ummmm…yes please?!” to a fan’s suggestion on Twitter that she play Ahsoka Tano in a ‘Star Wars’ movie.
The character was created by Dave Filoni and George Lucas for “The Clone Wars” animated series. Filoni is also a producer, writer and director of “The Mandalorian.”
The character most recently appeared as a voice heard by Rey during “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” the final film in the saga.
“The Mandalorian” takes place after the fall of the Empire in “Return of the Jedi” but before the events of the newest trilogy that started with “The Force Awakens” in 2015. Season two is expected to arrive in October 2020, but could be one of the many productions delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.
