Car ramming into Bx. sarge caught on video

A speeding car slammed into an NYPD sergeant on a Bronx streetcorn­er, sending him flying into another vehicle and onto the pavement, in an horrific scene caught on video early Tuesday.

The officers were responding to a report of about 20 or 30 people coming out of a pawnshop, according to emergency radio transmissi­ons.

The sergeant and a second ranking officer in a white shirt were crossing E. 170th St. at Walton Ave. just after 12:40 a.m. when a black sedan barreled toward them. The white-shirted officer managed to scramble out of the way, but the sergeant was hit, video (inset) shot by a neighbor shows.

Officers lifted the sergeant into a police van, which drove off to Lincoln Hospital. An NYPD spokesman said the sergeant was in stable condition He suffered a head injury and a broken leg, and was having difficulty breathing, a lieutenant with the Bronx’s 44th Precinct told a dispatcher during radio transmissi­ons. The sergeant was the second NYPD cop rammed by a vehicle during protests in 24 hours. Video shows an SUV full of looters hitting a police officer trying to stop them in Greenwich Village early Monday. Officers were responding to a burglary at a W. Eighth St. store where a group of men jumped out of two vehicles, smashed the front window and ransacked the place about 3:20 a.m.

The crew had jumped back into one of the vehicles when a police van cut them off. The cop was struck by the fleeing getaway SUV as he jumped out of the van’s side door

The officer was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was in stable condition.
