‘Imagine’ if Fox host had half a clue

- BY NANCY DILLON

“Fox & Friends” co-host Brian Kilmeade needs to brush up on John Lennon and how he died before invoking the music icon to make fun of Mayor de Blasio.

The conservative commentator made the preposterous claim Thursday that the Beatles founder and political activist wouldn’t be “safe” in New York right now due to current unrest sparked by outrage over the deaths of unarmed black people at the hands of police.

Lennon was famously murdered in front of his Manhattan apartment building in 1980.

Kilmeade’s tone-deaf comment came in response to de Blasio saying Wednesday that he didn’t support defunding NYPD but still found comfort in Lennon’s 1971 song “Imagine.”

“[Mayor de Blasio] wants you to hum ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon … John Lennon wouldn’t be safe in this city right now. He’d be hiding in his apartment,” Kilmeade said in the exchange posted to Twitter by Bobby Lewis with Media Matters.

Lewis poked fun at the attempt to “dunk on Bill de Blasio,” and replies to his post explained why.

“Lennon [was] killed by a white, Southern evangelical who flew to NYC for the express purpose of killing Lennon,” a Twitter user from North Carolina clarified.

“John Lennon, most famous for being safe in nyc,” another pointed out.

“John Lennon would be at the protests, no doubt right at the front,” a tweet from Jonny Hallam said.

Lennon was gunned down Dec. 8, 1980, in the archway of the Dakota, the apartment building where he lived across from Central Park.

His killer, Georgia resident Mark David Chapman, said he was upset by Lennon’s perceived anti-Christian sentiments.
