Offseason virtually over for Big Blue

- BY PAT LEONARD

The Giants’ full-team virtual offseason program wraps up on Friday. Veterans will be let go, and the plan for now is that they won’t return to team work until they report for training camp in East Rutherford, likely in mid-July.

Rookies are scheduled to continue virtual work until June 26, mainly related to player development, though everything remains fluid as part of the ongoing discussions with the league and NFL Players Association.

July 30 is the Giants’ tentative training camp start date, but the expectation is that NFL players will have to report to their respective facilities at least a few weeks early to quarantine prior.

Rookies’ report dates might get pushed even earlier, especially since this rookie class did not get to take all the typical predraft visits to team facilities, so that means even less familiarity with new surroundings.

The Giants didn’t get any players into their building prior to the quarantine so, for example, when first-round pick Andrew Thomas and Co. arrive, it will be the first trip there for most, if not all, of them.

JONES: I STAND BESIDE MY BROTHERS

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones shared Tuesday on social media that he stands by “the entire black community in support of the Black Lives Matters movement.”

“Those of you who know me well know that posting on social media is usually not my first instinct about how to express myself, and I felt that listening and talking with teammates and friends was important as a first step,” Jones posted on both Twitter and Instagram.

“I proudly stand beside my brothers and the entire black community in support of the Black Lives Matter movement to end systemic racism,” Jones continued. “I know this is complex, and I certainly don’t have all of the answers, but I am determined and motivated to do what I can to ask the right questions and work with others to drive change on this issue.”

SAME DIGS, NEW TURF

The Giants and Jets have a new field in their home stadium. The teams recently installed a new FieldTurf Classic HD system at MetLife Stadium, replacing the UBU Speed Series S5-M field they had installed in 2016.

The Giants already had the turf down inside their indoor practice field, so now the ground is a match across the parking lot at MetLife.
