8 hurt in wild Bx. car crash
Shocking dashcam video captured the moment a car sped through an intersection in the Bronx, hitting several pedestrians, before slamming into a coffee cart.
The crash happened Wednesday just after 3 p.m. in Fordham Heights, authorities said Thursday. Eight people were injured, including the driver.
The video shows a car stopping at Fordham Rd. and Jerome Ave. moments before the accident. Several people, including two with bicycles, are seen crossing the street beneath the elevated 4 train tracks.
Suddenly a 2011 Infiniti appears from the left side of the frame. It hits one person on a bicycle, and appears to knock down at least one pedestrian. Another person narrowly avoids being struck by the speeding automobile.
The vehicle then slams into an SUV before crashing into a coffee cart on the sidewalk, the video shows. The parked car then slammed into a wall, while the Infiniti hit a light post.
Police told the Daily News that four pedestrians were hurt, as well as two people who worked at the coffee cart. A passenger in the car that crashed was also injured.
Witnesses said the coffee cart was being run by two women.
“They’re very good ladies, very humble,” China, a longtime resident of the neighborhood, told the News. “It’s so sad … They’re hardworking, trying to make something out of themselves.”
She added that several people moved quickly to help the women, but also grab the gas tanks from the cart.
“The car was throwing out some smoke,” she said, adding it was good the tanks on the cart didn’t get directly hit. “It could have blown up and this whole block would have been gone.”
The driver, who authorities identified as Bronx resident Kevin Crosby, 43, was also hospitalized. He was charged with aggravated vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
