These guys lit fireworks that hurt kid
A crew of young men in a Ford Fusion with Pennsylvania license plates was responsible for firing the rogue fireworks that left a 3-yearold Bronx boy with burns to his arm and stomach, officials said Thursday.
Two of the men, dressed in white (inset), were seen by the corner of W. 167th St. and Anderson Ave. in Highbridge before the fireworks erupted about 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, surveillance footage released by police shows.
One of the late-night pyrotechnics rocketed through the child’s sixth-floor bedroom window and burned his arm as he watched the impromptu fireworks display.
The toddler needed stitches at a local hospital to close his cuts. His 17-year-old brother videotaped the scary scene.
Witnesses said the men were seen taking the fireworks from the Ford and setting them off. The child’s father, Jesus Rosario, carried his little boy out of the building and saw the men who set off the fireworks.
He screamed at them as the suspects jumped into the Ford and sped off.
No arrests have been made.
Cops released the surveillance footage Thursday in the hopes someone recognizes the suspects.
On Tuesday, Mayor de Blasio announced a major crackdown on the rogue pyrotechnic displays.
The city’s 911 centers received 13,315 calls for illegal fireworks from Jan. 1 to June 21, according to the NYPD, with the majority of those calls, 12,578, occurring this month. That’s compared to 1,007 calls from Jan. 1 to June 21, 2019.
Anyone with information regarding their whereabouts was urged to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
