Gov vows 24/7 trains – someday

-

Gov. Cuomo on Monday finally guaranteed that the nightly shutdowns of the subway would eventually end, easing the concerns of some straphangers who worried the closures would continue even after the pandemic is over.

Since May 6, passengers have been barred from the entire system from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. each night. Cuomo and Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials said the drastic move was necessary in order to thoroughly clean train cars and kick out homeless people.

MTA Chairman Patrick Foye last Wednesday declined to answer when or if the closures would cease, only saying that they “will continue as the pandemic continues.”

Cuomo on Monday gave a definitive “Yes” when asked whether 24/7 subway service would resume, and said that aggressively cleaning the subway would one day be unnecessary.
