Man killed by stolen truck
A man driving a stolen truck took the life of an innocent motorist Tuesday when he slammed the truck into an SUV in Middle Village, Queens, authorities said.
The SUV was rolling down Metropolitan Ave. near Rentar Plaza about 1:15 p.m. when the box truck, which was stolen in Richmond Hill, plowed into it, cops said.
Before the 25-yearold SUV driver was killed, the box truck hit dozens of cars, said Dallas Edwards, whose car was sideswiped on Humboldt Ave.
After his car was hit, Edwards chased the truck all the way to Middle Village Cemetery.
“And he was just hitting sh—,” Edwards said. “You would have thought it was a ... movie the way he was going through traffic.”
After the truck slammed into the SUV, the truck’s 37-year-old driver jumped out and ran to the nearby Metropolitan Ave. M train station.
Police quickly captured him there, authorities said.
Medics rushed the 25-year-old motorist to Elmhurst Hospital Center, but he could not be saved. His name was not immediately released.
The truck’s original driver — who answered the phone of its owner, Tall Boy Dynamic Moving Service Inc. of South Jamaica — said the thief “came out of nowhere.”
One of the victims — Wanda Cordero, 24 — was sitting in her Nissan Sentra on Metropolitan Ave. when the truck hit her car.
“He just literally sideswiped me and kept going,” she said. “He literally destroyed the whole left side of my car. He took off my mirror … everything,” she said.
“He’s a savage. He was not stopping,” Cordero said.
“A lot of people got lucky. It could have came out a lot worse,” said Rashid Woods, 19, another motorist whose car was damaged.
Charges against the driver of the stolen truck were pending.
