Cops bring black cat a bit of luck

- BY THOMAS TRACY

It was a purr-fect rescue.

Long Island cops rescued a small black kitten who got swept into a storm drain as Tropical Storm Fay hammered the East Coast, officials said Saturday.

Suffolk County Emergency Services Unit cops raced to Terryville about 6 p.m. Friday after hearing that the water-logged stray (above) was trapped in a storm drain outside a Claymer St. home.

Following the kitten’s panicked meows for help, Emergency Service Section Officer Michael Viruet squeezed into the storm drain and rescued the small feline, who finally managed to relax after he was dried off in a fluffy towel, officials said.

The rattled animal’s new leash on life also came with a new home — a neighbor witnessing the rescue agreed to adopt the kitten, officials said.
