South Brooklynites urged to cut the juice
Hot town, summer in the City.
In the midst of a five-day heatwave, south Brooklyn residents were asked to reduce electricity use Thursday, due to an equipment problem.
Mayor de Blasio urged people there to avoid using appliances like washers and dryers, microwaves and air conditioning.
Con Edison is doing equipment repairs, the company said in a statement.
“The [affected] area includes 96,600 customers in the Carroll Gardens, Park Slope, Sunset Park, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and Borough Park neighborhoods,” Con Ed said. “The voltage reduction also affects the Windsor Terrace, Kensington, Borough Park, Flatbush and Bensonhurst neighborhoods.”
“Right now, there is a problem with some of the equipment in southern Brooklyn,” de Blasio said at a press conference. “If you live in those neighborhoods, your electric supply is in danger right now.
“There’s something you can actually do to help us address this, which is to avoid using major appliances,” he added.
