Blaz on gov: ‘Past point of irritation’

Serenity now?

Mayor de Blasio said Monday he’s “past the point of irritation” with potshots from Gov. Cuomo.

He was responding to weekend comments from the Cuomo administration that belittled the city’s school reopening plan for the fall.

“Just because a school district says ‘we’re open’ does not mean students are going to go,” said the governor, the latest in a seemingly endless series of putdowns directed at Hizzoner.

Top Cuomo adviser Jim Malatras said the city’s reopening approach, unveiled Friday, was more like an “outline” than a concrete plan, noting it was far shorter than a similar document Yonkers produced.

The mayor, however, defended his reopening plan.

“I’m thinking about the parents, I’m thinking about the kids, I’m thinking about the educators,” de Blasio said Monday. “I’m focused on the work, and I’m focused on the people I serve.”

Speaking later Monday in Albany, Cuomo insisted he’s the one to make the final determination on whether schools reopen this fall — and dismissed some districts’ plans as “indecipherable,” though he didn’t name names.

“Just because a district puts out a plan, doesn’t mean that if we reopen the school, parents are going to come or teachers are going to come,” Cuomo said.

“I don’t care if the school district says reopen; if they don’t have a good plan for reopening, no kids are going to come and no teachers are going to come,” he added.

Asked about a Sunday Daily News report finding widespread dissatisfaction with online summer school, de Blasio said the city is learning from the experience, though he declined to go into detail about any takeaways.
