A Brooklyn man on the run for more than two months has been charged with fatally shooting a peacemaker trying to break up a street fight between the gunman and a friend of the victim, cops and heartbroken relatives said Wednesday.

Aveeno Peters was taken into custody on Tuesday after U.S. marshals tracked him down to Essex County, N.J. He had been hiding out since the June 2 killing of 28-yearold father of three Kevin Moore in Brownsville, cops said.

Moore’s family was grateful Peters, 23, was finally off the streets. Peters lives just a couple blocks from the scene of the slaying, authorities said.

“I’ve been praying every night since my son died for the police to catch the man that shot him,” Moore’s mother, Vera Moore, 54, told the Daily News Wednesday. “This man doesn’t understand — he don’t know what he took from everyone.”

Cops said that Peters (photo) didn’t know Moore until the victim jumped in and tried to stop a brawl between Peters and Moore’s pal on Thomas Boyland St. near Dean St. about 10:40 p.m.

“Kevin was always the peacemaker between his friends, it’s just who he was,” his heartbroken mom said. “I tried telling him that sometimes you just mind your own business, but he was a good kid always wanting to help.”

As Moore tried to stop the fight, Peters started attacking Moore, cops said. During the clash, Peters allegedly pulled a gun out and shot Moore in the stomach.

The friend of Moore’s that Peters had initially been fighting with ran off once the bullets started flying, Moore’s family said.

“What bothers me is that this friend, this person, left him there after he went in to help,” Moore’s sister, Naomie Moore, 38, told The News. “(My brother) got the bad end of the stick … but our mother raised us right and he saw someone that needed help and he helped.”

“It’s been hard for us but we know Kevin did right,” she added.

When medics arrived, it was not immediately clear how Moore had been injured. It wasn’t until he was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital that it was discovered he had been shot.

The doting dad died at the hospital a short time later. His youngest child, a daughter, is just 7 months old.

He lived about a half-mile from where he was shot, officials said.

“It’s so hard. This wasn’t even his fight,” his mother said. “It wasn’t his fight to begin with.”

The slaying came in the middle of a dramatic uptick in shootings and homicides citywide. The number of people shot in the city so far this year is up 89% from the same period last year. The number of homicides in the city has jumped by 30%, NYPD stats show.
