Teen is gunned down in B’klyn

- BY KERRY BURKE AND JOHN ANNESE

A young man was shot dead and an innocent bystander was wounded in Brooklyn on Wednesday in the latest of three deadly encounters within two blocks since Friday, authorities said.

The 18-year-old victim was carrying a gun, and may have fired back when he was ambushed on the corner of Ocean and Woodruff Aves. just before 3:30 p.m., police said.

In a plastic shopping bag, the victim had a votive candle and was heading to a memorial for Paul Pinkney, 47, who was killed in nearby Prospect Park early Saturday, police sources said.

In a sad coincidence, Pinkney was fatally shot after lighting a candle at another memorial — for Deshawn Reid, 28, who was killed a few doors away from Wednesday’s deadly scene.

Police sources and a witness told the Daily News that in Wednesday’s incident, a gunman sat in a parked gray BMW, waiting for his mark to walk by on Woodruff, and opened fire.

“He was parked on the corner and he shot him from the window. He never got out of the car,” said Jetmir Donovic, 37, who works as a building super in the neighborhood.

“There were shots and then there were some more,” Donovic said. “When I came out there were two people on the floor. They were surrounded by people and I couldn’t tell where they were shot.”

The teenage victim, shot in the chest and arm, staggered around the corner to Ocean Ave. and collapsed, dropping his 9-mm handgun in the street, sources said. Medics took him to Kings County Hospital, but he couldn’t be saved.

A 33-year-old man was hit in the chest by a stray bullet, sources said. He was in stable condition.

Jillian Anthony, 32, said she looked out her sixth-floor window after hearing the shots and saw the two victims sprawled on the ground, as a crowd gathered around them.

“I heard the gunshots, and there were like seven in a row, seven or eight, and I knew they were gunshots. I hit the ground,” she said. “Once I looked out, it was awful. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was also the middle of the day on a very busy street corner.”

The shooter turned onto Ocean Ave. and drove off. He remained at large Wednesday night.

Police believed the killing was gang related, sources said.
