Jags deal Ngakoue to Vikes

-

Disgruntled pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue is headed north, far away from Jacksonville.

A person familiar with the trade says the Jaguars have agreed to send Ngakoue to the Minnesota Vikings for a second-round draft pick in 2021 and a conditional fifth-rounder in 2022. The person said Ngakoue agreed to rework his 2020 salary to get out of Jacksonville. Ngakoue still has to sign his one-year franchise tender with the Jaguars to make the deal happen. He had been the league’s only franchisetagged player unsigned, opting to turn down an offer that would have guaranteed him $17.8 million this season.

SOX SEND MORELAND TO PADRES

The San Diego Padres made another big move to try to end their playoff drought, acquiring slugger Mitch Moreland in a trade Sunday with Boston.

Moreland adds even more power to an already potent San Diego lineup. On top of that, he brings big-game experience. He’s been in the postseason in seven of his past 10 seasons.

Later in the evening, Seattle and San Diego completed a seven-player trade, with catcher Austin Nola joining the Padres and prized outfield prospect Taylor Trammel going to the Mariners as centerpieces of the deal.

Seattle sent Nola and right-handed relievers Austin Adams and Dan Altavilla to the Padres, while Trammell led a list of youngsters headed back to the Mariners. Also going to Seattle is infielder Ty France, catcher Luis Torres and reliever Andres Munoz.

● The Chicago Cubs acquired Jose Martinez in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, giving manager David Ross another option at designated hitter.

The 32-year-old Martinez is a .294 hitter with 43 homers and 182 RBI in 422 majorleague games. He debuted with St. Louis in 2016 and spent four years with the Cardinals before he was traded to the Rays in January.

● The Colorado Rockies acquired righthanded reliever Mychal Givens from the Baltimore Orioles for prospects and cash considerations.

As part of the deal, the Orioles received infielders Tyler Nevin and Terrin Vavra, along with a player to be named and cash considerations.
