A man was stabbed to death in a Bronx apartment by his fiancée’s son early Thursday, authorities said.

Bashawn Bryant, 40, was arguing with his fiancée in their second-floor apartment on Davidson Ave. near E. 177th St. in Morris Heights about 2:45 a.m. When the fight turned physical, the woman’s son, Kairi Davis, 20, stepped in to defend her, sources said.

Medics rushed Bryant to St. Barnabas Ho s p i t a l , but he could not be saved.

Police took Davis into custody, and a spokesperson for the Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said Thursday night that he would be charged with murder.

“When they first moved into the building, I would see him all the time,” Alexis Brewer, 47, a tenant in the building, said of Bryant. “I would see their kids, they’re teenagers. I’ve been here five years. He would come outside, bring his weights, work out.

“I would always play chess with him. That was our thing. Doesn’t matter rain or shine, I would bring my chess board outside and I would ring his bell and tell his significant other to tell him to come outside. He would come down and let me win just so he could go upstairs,” Brewer said. “That’s what we used to do.”

Brewer described Bryant as very quiet, but friendly.

Another neighbor, who lives a floor above Bryant, said she was woken by the sound of her dogs barking.

“I got up, I went into the living room and I heard somebody screaming, ‘Help!’ I went into the hallway but I didn’t see anything,” said the neighbor, who wouldn’t give her name.
