Parolee in gang killing is shot dead

Slain yr. after release

- BY JOHN ANNESE

A Staten Island man who fatally ran down a man after a wild gang-related brawl in 2018 was killed Monday, less than a year after he was freed from prison.

Prince Edmonds, 21, was shot several times on Richmond Terrace near Harbor Road in Mariners Harbor about 1 p.m. Medics took him to Richmond University Medical Center, but he couldn’t be saved.

A second victim, 22, walked into the same hospital with a bullet wound to his leg, cops said.

On July 10, 2018, Edmonds — who police then identified as a reputed Bloods gang member — ran over 26-year-old ex-con Robert Craigwell during a brawl and car chase outside Staten Island Criminal Court.

The violence started when rival gang members came to blows inside the courthouse. The fight then spilled out onto the street, where the combatants flashed a gun and knife.

The brawl escalated, with Edmonds and four others piling into a stolen minivan.

They chased Craigwell, who was shooting at the van, and Edmonds hit him, pinning him against a nearby home and killing him.

The wild scene sparked a retaliation shooting later that day, and an innocent 67year-old woman, Franny Williams, was caught in the crossfire and killed.

Edmonds, who argued self-defense, was initially charged with murder for Craigwell’s death, but pleaded guilty last year to a lesser charge of leaving the scene of an accident. He was released on parole in November.

His defense lawyer, Mario Gallucci, said he didn’t believe Monday’s shooting was related to Craigwell’s death, but was part of ongoing gang violence in the area.
