Mets sale costs MLB’s integrity

-

BIf Commissioner Rob Manfred and his bosses, the 30 Major League Baseball club owners, do not veto the sale of the Mets to hedge fund king Steve Cohen, they will lose any credibility they had left in the eyes of the public. If having the money to buy a franchise outweighs integrity, then these people are a study in hypocrisy. What makes Cohen any different than Pete Rose or the Black Sox Eight, I might add?

Is it money? Are they allowing this sale at the price to keep the value of franchises sky-high for their own benefit? If they allow this sale to go through, then they should also allow the Veteran’s Committee to vote on Rose, Joe Jackson and Eddie Cicotte, the latter two posthumously, regarding their inductions into the Hall of Fame. Otherwise, they should never preach about Major League Baseball’s integrity again.

Brentwood, L.I.: I hope that those who are planning to vote for Joe Biden are really doing it because they think he would do a better job than President Trump has done or will do, not because they personally dislike Donald Trump.

Brooklyn: To Voicer Thomas Murawski, who believes that Joe Biden, Andrew Cuomo and Nancy Pelosi are fake Catholics because they are pro-choice: What about thrice-divorced Rudy Giuliani, whose first wife was his second cousin? He had that marriage annulled after 14 years, and later carried on an affair with his third wife-tobe while still married to his second wife. And what about all those Catholic members of the clergy who sexually abused children and underage youth? Not to mention the cover-ups. Are these people true Catholics? Prochoice does not mean proabortion. It means we believe a woman should be able to choose what’s best, healthwise or otherwise, and that includes a pregnancy that results from being raped.

Manhattan: Trump supporters remind me of someone in an abusive relationship. They swear he loves them while they are treated like garbage. Everyone else sees it and tries to warn them, but they refuse to see it and put up with it until they get hurt or worse. They think he’s a success, but he’s a sham of a businessman, all flash and no substance. He’s a proudly, willfully ignorant, prejudiced misogynist without any laudable morals whatsoever who’ll sell them down the river with everyone else, supporter or not, and laugh in their faces while doing it. The only person he has ever or will ever care about is himself. Wake up before it’s too late.

Phased out

Halifax, Nova Scotia: I enjoyed your gallery of TV dramas (“Best TV dramas of all time, according to audiences,” Sept. 18) in Friday’s online edition. Virtually all the shows listed aired after 2000. Alas, no “Hill Street Blues,” “Columbo,” “Gunsmoke,” “ER,” “Naked City” or “77 Sunset Strip” on the list. Maybe I’m getting too old for these polls.
