‘Suicide by cop’ threat by susp: source

- BY THOMAS TRACY

A Manhattan man wanted for stabbing his girlfriend dead in their apartment called the cops and threatened to end his life by “killing and shooting some cops,” according to a police source.

Joshua Martinez, who police identified as the main suspect in the death of girlfriend Carol Nystrom, called the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline early Saturday and made the threat, the source said.

Police are still looking for Martinez, 33, and re-released his photo on Saturday.

Nystrom, 44, was found dead in the couple’s apartment on W. 206th St. on Thursday after a concerned friend called police and said she hadn’t heard from the victim in several days.

Cops forced open the door and found Nystrom, beaten and stabbed, on the bedroom floor.

It appeared that Nystrom’s body had been lying in the apartment for a nearly a week, amid graffiti-covered walls and blankets over the windows.

Police said Martinez (inset) is known to frequent Inwood, as well as Brooklyn and the Rockaways in Queens.

Multiple neighbors said Martinez and Nystrom had a turbulent relationship and would fight daily.

Martinez has an extensive rap sheet dating back to 2009. He was arrested in March for slashing and robbing an acquaintance a month earlier, cops said.

Meanwhile, friends described Nystrom as a beloved neighbor who worked as a dog walker for a local clientele and delivered food for Doordash. She was also a seamstress and created COVID-19 masks for friends, her pals said.

Martinez is described as about 5-feet-6 and 165 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray New York Yankees jersey.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
