Stars make politics big part of show

- BY NANCY DILLON

Politics presided over the 2020 Emmys on Sunday as winners honored the memories of Breonna Taylor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg and repeatedly reminded viewers to vote.

“Watchmen” star Regina King was the first to appear onscreen wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with Taylor’s face, and the words “Say Her Name.”

“Gotta vote, I wouldberemissto not mention that,” King (inset) said as she accepted herr award for outstanding lead actress in a limited series or movie.

“It is very important. Be a good human. Rest in power, RBG,” she said, paying tribute to Ginsburg, the Supreme Court Justice and feminist icon who died Friday at age 87.

“Mrs. America” actress Uzo Aduba also wore a shirt with “Breonna Taylor” written across the front as she accepted an award for outstanding actress in a limited series or movie.

“Let’s go change the world,” she said.

The last award of the night — presented by Sterling K. Brown in a Black Lives Matter shirt — went to “Succession” as outstanding drama.

After thanking people involved in his show, creator Jesse Armstrong gave an “Un-thank you to President Trump for his crummy and uncoordinated response [to the coronavirus]. Un-thank you to [U.K. Prime Minister] Boris Johnson and his government for doing the same in my country,” the British producer said.

Taylor, 26, died in Kentucky March 13 after she was shot several times in her own home during a botched drug raid carried out by several plainclothes officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department.

The city of Louisville agreed to pay a record $12 million Tuesday to settle a wrongfuldeath lawsuit filed by the Black EMT’s family.

The officers involved in the shooting have not been criminally charged.

Ginsburg, the court’s second female justice, died due to complications from cancer.
