Wade, Union hailed over trans love

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union are among this year’s TIME 100 list, revealed Tuesday during an ABC special.

In the magazine, which hit newsstands this week, #MeToo founder Tarana Burke profiled the couple, writing that their “commitment to authenticity is without compromise.”

Though the Black power couple are happy to be honored, they thought it was “weird” when it comes to the reason they’re included on the prestigious list of influencers from all walks of life.

“We’re still kind of getting used to being recognized for doing things that have really kind of come naturally like loving your kids as they are,” Union told Good Morning America Tuesday. “It’s just weird to get credit for that.”

The former NBA star and “Bring It On” actress have been outspoken on Black Lives Matter issues, and made headlines earlier this year when Wade’s daughter, Zaya, was revealed to be transgender.

“She’s helped us see life differently, and I’m thankful for her,” Wade, 38, said of the 13year-old. “She’s allowed me to be informed where I can help in the same process.”

“Right now it’s a lot of people in the Black community that that will not accept someone of transgender, you know, and look at them as different and not worthy, not worthy of life,” he shared.

The former Miami Heat shooting guard admitted he’s still evolving, though.

“I think I’m finding my voice, continuing to let everyone know that I am not perfect,” he explained. “I do not know everything, but I lead with my heart. I lead with love.”

Union said some people “needed to see other families just love their children out loud, unapologetically.”

Leading pandemic expert Dr. Anthony Fauci and rapper Megan Thee Stallion also reportedly made the 2020 TIME 100.
