New dad was shot in head down block from his home
A new dad shot in the head down the block from his Bronx home while chasing a rival has died of his wounds, officials said Thursday.
Jaguar Housey, 29, was running after a man in a redhooded sweatshirt and gray pants down Prospect Ave. in Longwood about 8:15 p.m. on Sept. 16.
The man Housey was chasing whirled around with a gun in hand and opened fire near E. 163rd St. Housey apparently saw the gun, changed direction and tried to run away, but was shot in the head, police said.
He collapsed in front of a building on Prospect Ave. A portion of the chase was caught by a surveillance camera.
“He was running and the next thing you know, he was lying in front of the building in the street,” a witness, who didn’t give his name, told the Daily News the night of the shooting. “There were about four shots. He was face down on the pavement, bleeding from the head. He wasn’t moving at all.”
Medics rushed him to Lincoln Hospital, where he died the next day.
Cops said the gunman was arguing with Housey before the chase began. Housey lived on Prospect Ave. with his mother just a few doors down from where he was shot. His baby girl was born just a month before his death, one family friend told The News.
“He just had a baby. I asked him the other day if he was done, and we laughed. He’s a good guy,” said the friend, who did not wish to be named.
Housey had been arrested 18 times, most recently on June 2 when he and an accomplice allegedly robbed a food delivery man of his phone and backpack down the block from his home. Cops charged him with robbery and grand larceny.
It was not immediately clear if his criminal past had anything to do with his slaying.
The gunman remained on the loose Thursday.
