Garner choke filmer busted in beat of woman

- BY NOAH GOLDBERG

The man who filmed the last moments of Eric Garner’s life was busted on charges that he repeatedly hit a woman in the face outside his Brooklyn home in August, court papers revealed.

Ramsey Orta, 29, was slapped with assault in the third degree and other charges for the Aug. 30 beatdown on Havemeyer St. near S. Third St. in Williamsburg.

Orta (photo) was with Tandrina King and King’s 5-year-old daughter Khmani in his apartment around 8 a.m. when he pulled out a firearm and followed the two out of the building, according to a criminal complaint filed in Brooklyn.

He then wrapped his fist in a red bandana and punched Tandrina King in the face in front of the toddler, according to prosecutors.

After Tandrina and her child got into a cab, Orta reached through the window and punched Tandrina numerous times, the complaint alleges. The motive for the alleged assault was unclear.

Because of the presence of the girl, Orta was also hit with endangering the welfare of a child.

Orta was arrested Wednesday after police pulled him over in his BMW — for excessively tinted windows — at S. Second and Roebling Sts. Officers smelled marijuana, and Orta had a pistol tucked in his waistband, according to police.

The feds are expected to pick up the gun case, with state prosecutors saying Thursday at Orta’s arraignment that there was a federal warrant out for Orta’s arrest in Brooklyn.

Orta got out of prison on May 28 after serving nearly four years for Staten Island drug sales and gun possession charges. He was released six weeks early due to COVID-19 concerns. Orta’s July 17, 2014, footage of Eric Garner repeatedly saying “I can’t breathe” — shared exclusively with the Daily News — helped spur nationwide protests against police brutality.

Orta has said that he is targeted by the NYPD because of his footage of Garner’s death.
