Dad hurt in bid to save kids is fired

- BY THOMAS TRACY

A hero father who shielded his three children from a hail of gunfire at a Bronx car dealership lost his two jobs because of his injuries, according to a report.

Anthony Jefferson was struck in the thigh during the Monday evening shootout in Eastchester and left unable to walk, so he lost his two jobs as a painter for a construction company and construction worker, his wife Danica Jefferson told TMZ.

A GoFundMe page to raise money for Jefferson’s medical bills also noted that his three children would have to get therapy because they were “beyond traumatized.”

Anthony Jefferson was waiting to purchase a car at On the Road Automotive Group for Danica’s birthday when a gunfight erupted around 7:20 p.m.

The father of three was sitting with his kids in the waiting area when two hooded gunmen dressed in black stormed into the building and opened fire at a man with an arm sling.

Terrifying surveillance video obtained by the Daily News shows one of the hooded suspects run up and fire through an open glass door.

Jefferson scoops his three children off the couch and pulls them to the floor under his own body. A few seconds later, a second door explodes from gunshots, sending shards of glass raining down on the couch as Jefferson and his kids crawl away, the video shows.

Jefferson was struck in the thigh and taken to Jacobi Medical Center.

Danica Jefferson told the Daily News that she cries every time she sees the video, but is grateful that her husband did everything he could to protect their kids.

“It could have gone way worse. I definitely appreciate him for his act, which he did to protect our children,” she said Wednesday.

Police said the gunmen carjacked a green Honda Civic with Georgia plates at the scene and sped north on Provost Ave. Their target also ran off, cops said.

No arrests have been made.
