Becton ‘possibly’ a go on Thursday

-

The Jets got some encouraging news amid their miserable 0-3 start when a MRI revealed that Mekhi Becton's shoulder injury that forced him out of Sunday's loss in Indianapolis wasn't as bad as feared.

Adam Gase admitted Monday that the MRI “turned out better” than what team brass initially felt after the rookie left tackle was injured in the second half.

“I think we all kind of got nervous because he was grabbing his pec a little bit,” Gase said. “We weren't really sure until we got the MRI back. I know he's very motivated to get back out there. He kind of saw how the holes weren't quite opening up the same when he's out of the game.”

Becton, one of the few bright spots for Gase's club, could “possibly” play against the Broncos on Thursday night, Gase said.

“We'll take this one day-byday,” Gase said.

BRESHAD DOWN, BLAKE OUT

Outside linebacker Jordan Jenkins returned to the game against the Colts after leaving with a shoulder injury. His status for Thursday is unknown. Gase said that wide receiver Breshad Perriman will almost certainly miss his second consecutive game with an ankle injury. Wide receiver Jamison Crowder (hamstring), right tackle George Fant (concussion protocol), cornerback Quincy Wilson (concussion protocol) and safety Ashtyn Davis (groin) will be monitored in the next couple days to determine their availability.

Broncos head coach Vic Fangio said he'll either go with veteran quarterback Jeff Driskel or former practice squader Brett Rypien on Thursday night rather than go with Blake Bortles, who was signed last week after starter Drew Lock suffered a multiweek shoulder injury.

Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jurrell Casey suffered a season-ending torn biceps in Denver's loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday. Fangio's team has been besieged by injuries. Defensive linemen DeMarcus Walker and Dre'Mont Jones landed on I.R. last week. Future Hall of Famer Von Miller, linebacker Mark Barron and cornerback A.J. Bouye are hurt, too.

The Broncos will be without Lock and his top wide receiver Courtland Sutton. It's unclear whether running back Philip Lindsay will return from injury.
