A barely breathing newborn boy was found abandoned outside a Queens home Sunday morning with his umbilical cord still attached, police said. His mother was later taken into custody.

Authorities found the naked infant outside a home on 126th St. near 107th Ave. in South Ozone Park around 10:15 a.m., police said. The infant was in critical condition and rushed to Jamaica Hospital, cops said.

A next-door neighbor, Elyte Surajeeli, said she found the infant in an alley, resting on his side, in a pool of blood, then told one of his mother’s relatives to call 911.

“I heard a little cry, like a little cat cry. And when I looked I said, ‘No, it’s a baby,’ said Surajeeli, who spotted the infant through her window.

Surajeeli said the mother’s female relative was sitting in the front yard of their home, while two children played outside.

“I called her and I said, ‘Miss, hurry up, come to see what is in your yard there,’ ” Surajeeli said. “And when she came she start to scream and said, ‘Oh my God.’ I said, ‘Call 911. Don’t cry, don’t scream. Call 911 right away.’ ”

The boy’s mother came out of the house to wipe him with a towel, and police showed up soon after, she said.

The boy’s 23-year-old mother was taken into custody with charges pending, authorities said.

Surajeeli said the mother was led in handcuffs into an ambulance.

“I know them to be very nice people, working-class people. That’s why I’m shocked,” she said. “This is a person who goes out to work everyday like everyone else. I don’t know what to think. Never in my life did I think I would see something like that.”
