President to Senate: Quit yakking & do my stimulus

- BY DAVE GOLDINER

President Trump has heard enough chit-chat about the U.S. Supreme Court.

Less than an hour into the high-stakes U.S. Senate Judicial Committee hearing on the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett, the president suggested pulling the plug on the talk fest and act on his on-again-offagain demands for a corona virus stimulus package.

“Person ally, I would pull bback, approve, anand go for STIMULUS for the people!!!” Trump tweeted.

Just last week, Trump called off talks with Congressional Democrats for a stimulus package worth around $2 trillion. He later flip-flopped and said he wanted a deal after all.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has offered a package worth $1.8 trillion, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ky.) has so far stuck to her guns on a $2.2 trillion deal.

All this comes as Trump is sliding in the polls and is sidelined by his COVID-19 infection. Meanwhile, the White House is short-staffed and dealing with infections among its employees. And the president and Pelosi are attacking each other’s mental health.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) says he is open to resuming the negotiations in a postelection lame-duck session, but that prospect is murky as well, depending on the election results.

Pelosi issued a downbeat assessment in a letter to her colleagues but expressed some optimism in an appearance on MSNBC.

“I do hope that we’ll have an agreement soon,” Pelosi said.
