More trouble for ex-Conn. cheese seller

- BY JOHN PENNEY

A former Connecticut cheese shop owner whose numerous threatening, breach of peace and protective order violations are scheduled to be heard at trial was arrested again this month for allegedly stalking a local man, police said.

Julie Lamothe, 58, of North Stonington, Conn., was charged on Oct. 8 with second-degree breach of peace and second-degree stalking in connection with a Sept. 27 incident at the Brooklyn, Conn., Walmart, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Police said a 59-year-old Brooklyn man accused Lamothe of trying to hit him with her vehicle after verbally accosting him inside a nearby store. Video surveillance showed the two arguing, with Lamothe “observed to be the aggressor,” police said.

The alleged victim said Lamothe had previously shown up in town to confront him and during the most recent encounter accused him of stealing her money before threatening to have someone rob his home, the warrant states.

After the store argument, police said, Lamothe parked near the alleged victim’s vehicle as she “lies in wait” for the man to pass by. As the man crossed the lot, Lamothe was seen heading towards him. The man told police Lamothe drove her vehicle at him, causing him to lose control of his shopping cart.

Lamothe told police she wanted the alleged victim to pay for scratches on her vehicle, though police noted no such damage was visible.

Lamothe has a slew of other charges that a Connecticut superior court judge last year set down for trial, including three counts of criminal violation of a protective order, three counts of violation of conditions of release, two counts of breach of peace, threatening, reckless endangerment, criminal damage of property, larceny as well as several motor vehicle and dog-ownership related crimes. She has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Lamothe previously ran a cheese business, Meadow Stone Farms, before her landlords evicted her from the premises in 2018 for allegedly stealing equipment and damaging property. State police estimate Lamothe stole at least $4,446 in property and caused roughly $1,100 in damage to the shop, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Lamothe, whose public defender successfully removed himself from her cases last year, said she will represent herself at trial, though no date for the proceedings has been set.

She is due back in court on the most recent charges on Oct. 30.
