Gird yourself for ‘Debate 2,’ America
President Trump and Joe Biden will face off on six hot button issues when they hit the debate stage for the second and final time next week, the event’s organizer announced Friday.
Barring breaking news, the Commission for Presidential Debates said the topics on the table for the Oct. 22 rhetorical slugfest will be “Fighting COVID-19, American Families, Race in America, Climate Change, National Security and Leadership.”
Trump and Biden were supposed to debate three times this election cycle.
But the second debate, slated for this past Thursday, was canceled after Trump refused to accept the CPD’s demand that the event be held virtually for safety reasons in light of his COVID-19 diagnosis. Instead, the candidates held dueling town hall events in different parts of the country.
The Oct. 22 debate will take place in Nashville, Tenn., and run from 9-10:30 p.m. The debate will be moderated by Kristen Welker of NBC News.
Last month’s first debate in Cleveland was chaotic.
Trump incessantly interrupted Biden, prompting the former vice president to call him a “clown” and tell him to “shut up.”
It was not immediately clear if there will be new rules for the third debate to prevent interruptions.
In the wake of the first debate, organizers were reportedly considering allowing moderators to mute candidates as a fail-safe. It was not immediately clear if that option will be added for the Oct. 22 debate.
The final debate will take place just 12 days before the election.
Biden continues to trounce Trump in all national polls. He also holds an edge over Trump in several key battleground state surveys.
