GRIDLOCK SAM

- SAM SCHWARTZ TRAFFIC

FRIDAY., NOV. 6 - SUNDAY., NOV. 8 ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING RULES ARE IN EFFECT FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

With the results of the presidential election continuing to unfold, expect rallies and marches across the city this weekend. Watch for traffic disruptions at typical hotspots, including Times Square, Union Square, and the East River bridges. I’d avoid entirely the area around Trump Tower (5th Ave. and 57th St. in Manhattan).

Midtown Alert! Work has been continuing to secure the area around 57th St. and 6th Ave. in Manhattan after a crane incident caused debris to fall off a building last week. As this went to press, closures continue along 6th Ave. from 56th St. to 59th St. and along 57th St. from 5th Ave. to 7th Ave. I'm told most of these areas will reopen over the weekend.

The Workers’ Assembly Against Racism rally begins at Columbus Circle (Broadway and 59th St. in Manhattan) on Saturday at 1 p.m.

New Jersey drivers, expect delays on Route 17 around Teterboro Airport today, Friday. Two northbound lanes will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. near the Route 46 overpass.

Watch for backups around Memorial Sloan-Kettering in Manhattan this weekend. 68th St. between 1st and York Avenues will be closed from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for crane operations.

With a beautiful weekend ahead, it’s a great time to enjoy outdoor dining at local restaurants. The city’s Open Streets Restaurants program is still expanding. In Brooklyn, Randolph St. from Gardner to Scott Avenues and Scott Ave. from Randolph St. to the dead end by the railroad tracks is closed to traffic Monday to Friday, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m to 11 p.m. In the Bronx, open street hours on Alexander Ave. from Bruckner Blvd. to 134th St. have been expanded to all days from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.

There will be no 7 service Saturday 5 a.m. to Mon 1 a.m between Queensboro Plaza and 34 St.-Hudson Yards. Replacement shuttle buses run in two sections: in Queens between Queensboro Plaza and Vernon Blvd., and in Manhattan between Times Square and 34 St.-Hudson Yards. You may prefer to take the N, R, W, E or F to/from Manhattan. Between Grand Central and Times Square, take the shuttle, which will be running until 1 a.m.

Staten Islanders, note that shuttle buses replace SIR service between St. George and Grasmere this weekend, Saturday 1 a.m to Sunday 4 a.m, and the next two weekends, Saturday 1 a.m to Monday 4 a.m.
