Drake disses Grammys after Weeknd snub
The Grammy Awards nominations hit a sour note with Drake, too.
The superstar singer and rapper said the Grammys “may no longer matter” after The Weeknd was snubbed when the nominees were unveiled Tuesday.
“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after,” Drake wrote on his Instagram story Wednesday. The Weeknd was considered a favorite to receive r multiple nominations n at the music-focused awards show on the strength of his chart-topping album, “After Hours,” and the hit single “Blinding
Lights.”
However, the singer, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, didn’t receive a single nomination.
Drake wrote he believed The Weeknd was “a lock” for album or song of the year.
The Weeknd himself has been critical of the snub as well.
“The Grammys remain corrupt,” the artist, 30, tweeted Tuesday. “You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency...”
In a separate tweet Wednesday, The Weeknd wrote, “Collaboratively planning a performance for weeks to not being invited? In my opinion zero nominations = you’re not invited!”
Drake, 34, also listed PartyNextDoor, Lil Baby, Pop Smoke and Popcaan as artists he believes were snubbed by the Recording Academy in the Grammy nominations.
The Weeknd is a three-time Grammy winner and has received 10 nominations in his career. Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Graham, has won four Grammys and received 47 nominations.
