S.I.’s Malliotakis puts AOC and her ‘Squad’ on notice
Republican Rep.-elect Nicole Malliotakis of Staten Island said Sunday that she is looking to form a conservative clique opposed to the famous “Squad” led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).
Malliotakis said newly elected Republicans will “serve as a counterbalance to the values” of the Squad consisting of AOC and some of the most liberal women in Congress.
“We don’t believe we should be dismantling the economy, we don’t believe we should be destroying free market principles, we don’t believe in Green New Deal, we don’t believe in packing the courts,” Malliotakis said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“I think there’s just a stark contrast between what we’re offering and what people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are offering, and that’s something that needs to be debated in Washington,” she added.
Malliotakis previously said she wants to create a “Freedom Squad” opposed to Ocasio-Cortez and Reps.
Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.).
A record number of women won seats to Congress in the November elections. At least 131 women — 100 Democrats and 31 Republicans — will serve in the 117th Congress, a number that could rise after special elections set for January in Georgia. The number of women from the GOP more than doubled compared with the current Congress.
“We really reflect the faces of America,” incoming Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina said on CNN, discussing her fellow Republicans.
“The diversity and the inclusion that we have in the Republican Party — that is our future. And if we don’t get onboard with recruiting the right people — minorities, women, veterans, etc. — then we’re going to lose in the future.”
Along with fighting the Squad, Malliotakis voiced support for President Trump’s crazed attempts to overturn the outcome of his contest against President-elect Joe Biden.
