UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Alex Barcello scored 20 points and Gideon George notched 13 points and 15 rebounds to help BYU beat St. John’s, 74-68, on Wednesday night.

Brandon Averette added 12 points and Trevin Knell scored 11 points for BYU (4-1).

DOME LEAKING AT SYRACUSE

The women’s basketball game in the newly refurbished Carrier Dome between the No. 22 Syracuse Orange and Division II Lincoln has been moved because of water on one area of the court.

A game official spotted some drops of water and the game was moved to the nearby Carmelo K. Anthony Basketball Center as a precautionary measure.

It was played there as a private scrimmage.

The Dome is in the final stages of a $118 million upgrade, and the school says the construction project includes spot sealing the roof.

The Orange men host Niagara of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tonight and the issue is expected to be resolved by then.

PENN ST. TOPS VCU

Myles Dread hit a 3 at the buzzer, and Penn State beat VCU, 72-69, on Wednesday night in University Park.

Dread was scoreless and 0 for 4 from the field, all 3-point shots, before he took a pass from Jamari Wheeler and drained the winner from the right wing over the outstretched arm of 6-foot-9 — with a 7-4 wingspan — Hason Ward as time expired.

Sam Sessoms added 17 points for Penn State (2-0).

Levi Stockard III led VCU (22) with 13 points and Nah’Shon Hyland scored 11.

Seth Lundy, who finished with 32 points, hit two free throws to give the Nittany Lions an eight-point lead with 3:46 to play but VCU scored nine of the next 10 points to make it 69-69 when freshman Jamir Watkins hit a driving, acrobatic layup with 8.5 seconds left. Penn State went 0 for 3 from the field and 1 for 4 from the free-throw line with two turnovers during that stretch.
