Drug & gun takedown 14 arrested
Fourteen men were indicted for running a massive trafficking ring where guns, heroin and crack cocaine were peddled through the streets of Harlem, prosecutors said Thursday.
The crew of drug dealers — who boasted street names like Big Man, Sherm, Pooch, and Mustafa — doled out more than 280 grams of crack cocaine on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd. between 120th and 123rd Sts. since last November, said authorities.
Eight crew members have already been arrested and arraigned. Five others are still being sought.
One of the drug runners, Cameron “Cam” Francis, was also nabbed for robbing someone who was trying to buy drugs and a handgun off him on Nov. 3, prosecutors said.
“Homeland Security Investigations and NYPD dismantled a criminal organization that allegedly trafficked and distributed heroin and cocaine while terrorizing our streets with violence and no regard for the welfare of our community,” HSI Special Agent in Charge Peter Fitzhugh said Thursday.
“Eradicating this ruthless syndicate will provide some relief to our neighborhoods, and is a step forward in an effort to safeguard our homeland.”
Police Commissioner Dermot Shea also cheered the arrest Thursday. “This is what precision policing looks like,” he wrote on Twitter.
Francis and co-defendants Kenneth “Big Man” Spearman, Sheldon “Sal” Clark, Eric Grant, Sirron “Shem” Stafford, Isaiah “Pooch” Ledgister, Tristan Oliver, Joseph Campbell, Eric Gaston, Harvey “Fresh” Foster, Maurice Womack, Reginald “Dread” Claxton, Lavelle Maitland and Ray “Mustafa” Boyd all face a minimum of 10 years in prison if convicted, authorities said.
Francis faces an additional 20 years to life for the gun selling and robbery charges, authorities said.
