Hopeful in Ga. gave to abort foes Stars are out for Dems

- BY LARRY MCSHANE Dave Goldiner

Georgia Sen. Kelly Loeffler, facing a January runoff in her reelection bid, made recent donations to groups fighting against abortion and LBGQT rights.

Loeffler, the wealthiest member of Congress, gave money to a Georgia adoption agency that bars same-sex couples, according to a report from BuzzFeed News. And the Republican senator provided funds to seven “crisis pregnancy centers” where women seeking abortions are dissuaded from going forward with the procedure, the report indicated.

Covenant Care Adoptions received $3,800, while the seven pregnancy centers received a total of $26,000, with the donations made in the last two fiscal quarters. Loeffler’s office did not respond to a request for comment made by BuzzFeed.

Georgia-based Covenant Care’s website requires prospective parents to be “husband and wife” — and to agree to a “Statement of Faith” declaring that “homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct and ... use of pornography is sinful and offensive to God.”

Forbes magazine estimates the net worth of Loeffler and her husband at more than $800 million. She is opposed in the Jan. 5 runoff by Democrat Raphael Warnock as the two parties battle for control of the Senate, with Republican incumbent David Perdue facing a challenge from Democrat Jon Ossoff.

One victory would assure the GOP a Senate majority of 51-49, while a Democratic sweep would create a 50-50 split — with incoming Vice President Kamala Harris holding the tie-breaking vote.

President Trump plans a Saturday get-out-the-vote rally in Valdosta, Ga., on behalf of the Republican candidates despite his own loss to President-elect Joe Biden in the battleground state.

“Hamilton” superstar Lin-Manuel Miranda and Seattle rockers Pearl Jam are creating an unlikely artistic team to support the Democratic candidates in Georgia’s make-or-break Senate run-off elections on Jan. 5.

Former President Barack Obama is also planning to drop in for a virtual benefit for challengers Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff.

Miranda insisted he’s a lifelong fan of Pearl Jam. “Their music has made an impact on me,” the Broadway star told Variety.
