LIZZO’S CLEANSE BODY OF TRUTH

- BY JAMI GANZ

No blame for the juice.

Lizzo on Tuesday defended the 10-day smoothie cleanse she posted about earlier in the day (during which she told fans to “practice safe detoxification”), leading some to criticize the body-positive “Juice” singer.

“I would normally be so afraid and ashamed to post things like this online, because I feel like as a big girl, people just expect if you are doing something for health, you’re doing it for a dramatic weight loss,” the Grammy-winner, 32, said on TikTok.

As it happens, the “Truth Hurts” singer said that wasn’t her intention at all.

“November stressed me the f—k out. I drank a lot. I ate a lot of spicy things and things that f—---d my stomach up. I wanted to reverse it and get back to where I was,” she explained.

Lizzo went on to say she’s “still proud” of herself and her results.

“My sleep has improved. My hydration, my inner peace, my mental stability, my f—---g body, my f—---g skin, the whites of my eyes. I feel and look like a bad b—-h,” she said. “That’s it. I’m a big girl who did a smoothie detox. And I wanted to share that with you guys. I got exactly what I wanted out of it and every big girl should do whatever the f—k they want with their bodies.”

Some initially regarded Lizzo’s earlier videos about the detox as “so f—--d” or an “inevitable” sign of the “Good as Hell” songstress “submit[ting] to toxic diet culture” and “fatphobia.”

Many though, including some who originally viewed the cleanse as “a slap in the face,” defended the singer.

“Not sure who needs to hear this but #Lizzo is not a disappointment to the anti-diet and body positivity movements,” tweeted one user. “She is a human, doing the best she can for her health in the moment & we don’t need to drag anyone for that.”

The cleanse posts follow a candid video Lizzo posted on TikTok last week in which she discussed “negative thoughts” she was having about her body, but she wasn’t going to let that get her down for long.

“They happen to the best of us, we are the best of us,” she said at the time. “And I just have to know that tomorrow, how I feel in here is gonna change. And I can only hope that it changes for the better.”
