Ohio State hands Scarlet Knights first loss

Duane Washington Jr. scored 22 points and No. 23 Ohio State rallied from a 16-point second-half deficit to beat No. 11 Rutgers, 80-68, on Wednesday.

E.J. Liddell scored 21 points and Kyle Young added 17 points and 12 rebounds for Ohio State (7-1, 1-1 Big Ten), which trailed, 48-32, with 15 minutes left in the game. The Buckeyes went on a 20-1 run late in the second half to seize control and hand Rutgers (6-1, 2-1) its first loss.

Ron Harper Jr. scored 20 points, Montez Mathis scored 16 and Jacob Young added 12 for the Scarlet Knights.

Harper scored 10 points in the first half as Rutgers led 38-28 at the break. Young and Geo Baker each scored eight first-half points for the Scarlet Knights. Harper notched seven points during a 12-2 run that gave Rutgers a 22-11 lead. The Scarlet Knights led by as many as 13 points in the first half.

Harper hit a 19-footer and a pair of 3s a minute apart early in the second half for a 48-32 lead with 15:31 left.

KAHNLE SIGNS WITH DODGERS

The Dodgers and right-handed reliever Tommy Kahnle have agreed to a $4.75 million, two-year deal, according to a person familiar with the contract.

Kahnle can earn up to $500,000 in performanc­e bonuses.

Kahnle threw just one inning for the Yankees in 2020 before having season-ending Tommy John surgery in August, and the 31-year-old is unlikely to pitch next season.

● The Red Sox have signed right-hander Matt Andriese to a $2.1 million, one-year deal to bolster the back end of their starting rotation.

Chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom announced the agreement Wednesday. Andriese will earn a $1.85 million salary for 2021 and has a $3.5 million club option for 2022 with a $250,000 buyout. Andriese could earn up to $7.6 million over two seasons.

The 31-year-old Andriese made one start and 15 relief appearance­s for the Angels in 2020, posting a 4.50 ERA. Andriese has been a starter and reliever throughout his career, including during four seasons with AL East-rival Tampa Bay.

DEVILS RE-SIGN BLACKWOOD

The Devils have re-signed restricted freeagent goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood to a three-year, $8.4 million contract.

“Mackenzie is going to be one of the key young, core pieces for this organizati­on for a long time and we are excited and extremely happy to have him under contract,” GM Tom Fitzgerald said.
