Jets’ 2021 sked may be easier

- BY DENNIS YOUNG

The sequence of the Jets schedule next year is unknown — as is the presence of fans at games — but the opponents are not. Here they are:

Bills, Patriots, Dolphins, Buccaneers, Saints, Titans, Jaguars, Bengals

Bills, Patriots, Dolphins, Falcons, Panthers, Texans, Colts, Broncos

IF THE LEAGUE ADDS A 17TH GAME:

Eagles In addition to the six divisional games, the team plays the AFC South, the NFC South, and two last-place games against the Broncos and Bengals.

All of the opponents were set heading into Sunday except for Denver, which clinched a last-place AFC West finish with a loss and Chargers win.

The league is likely to add a 17th game to the schedule. For 2021, the AFC East and NFC East would have opponents from the same place matched up with each other, meaning the Jets would play the lastplace Eagles.

It’s not known if the additional game will be at home or on the road.

The Jets had the hardest schedule in the NFL this year, with opponents running up a .594 winning percentage in 2020. The 2021 opponents had a .502 winning percentage this year.

That stat is a little misleading, though. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy: Teams that lose a lot make their strength of schedule harder by giving their opponents lots of wins.

Four playoff teams will be coming to East Rutherford next year: The Bills, Bucs, Saints and Titans.

The road schedule is quite a bit easier, with the Bills and Colts the only 2020 playoff teams that the Jets travel to.

With the Jaguars headed to MetLife, Jets fans could get a look at Trevor Lawrence, just in a different uniform.
