Dem boss: Four N.Y. pols who triedt to block Joe should quit
ALBANY — New York Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs iis calling for the resignation of four Republican congress members ffrom the state who backed a bid tto block the certification of Joe Biden’s electoral win.
A day after four people died dduring an attempted siege on the Capitol in Washington, Jacobs (photo) slammed a quartet of New York representatives for perpetuating President Trump’s baseless allegations of voter fraud and objecting to electors during an overnight joint congressional session.
Jacobs said that Reps. Lee Zeldin, Nicole Malliotakis, Elise Stefanik and Chris Jacobs “have not only violated their oath of office, they have disgraced the districts and state that they represent.”
“Supporting a lie that you know to be false has consequences, as we can see clearly today,” the state’s top Dem said. “There are four dead bodies that are testament to how serious those consequences can be.”
After chaos and anarchy consumed Congress for the better part of the day, the House and Senate approved Biden and Kamala Harris as president and vice president. But in the process, six Republicans in the Senate and 121 in the House voted to block electors, the four New York GOP members among them.
In a scathing statemment, Jacobs said those who fueled the flflames of sedition are nno longer fit to serve aas elected officials.
“After doing what they did to support tthat lie and the narcissistic authoritarian in tthe White House who wanted to cling to power, none of those senators or representatives should ever again have the audacity to place hand over heart and recite the words ’I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands . . .’ ” he said. “Yesterday they established that they do not, and their treachery will be forever recorded in the annals of history.”
