Ex-B’klyn DA worker took vids cheering on D.C. mob
A recently retired staffer from the Brooklyn district attorney’s office who also served as a locally elected Brooklyn Democratic Committee member was among those attending the Washington rally on Wednesday that led to the storming of the U.S. Capitol.
Katherine Khatari attended the rally where President Trump incited the mob that attacked the Capitol, and posted multiple Facebook videos while she was there.
None of her videos suggest she was at the Capitol building or participated in any illegal behavior.
“The Patriots took back the house,” she posted on Facebook at 3:31 p.m. Wednesday as the Capitol was stormed.
Khatari (photo) reposted unfounded conspiracy theories to social media that the people who stormed the Capitol were Antifa members who had infiltrated the pro-Trump mob to cause chaos.
“They were not [Trump supporters] and there is video of the alleged police opening the gates,” she wrote in response to another person’s comment.
Her former boss had a less rosy view of the day’s events.
“Like most Americans, I was saddened and dismayed by the despicable riots in our Capitol,” District Attorney Eric Gonzalez tweeted. “We can’t tolerate this coup attempt and those who broke the law must be held accountable, starting w/ the president who led them.”
The DA’s office paid her just under $50,000 in 2019 as a community associate, according to state payroll records. A spokesman for the district attorney’s office told the Daily News that Khatari retired at the end of 2019.
Khatari ran to be the female county committee member for the Democratic Party in 2018 for Bay Ridge. She won but it wasn’t immediately clear Thursday if she served the full two-year term.
Voter registration records show she has been registered as a Democrat, Republican and independent. She registered as a Republican in 2019, according to Board of Election records.
Khatari did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.
