Pol was set to fight mob

- Chris Sommerfeldt

As the pro-Trump mob breached the U.S. Capitol and appeared on the brink of storming into the House chamber, New York Rep. Sean Maloney turned to one of his Democratic colleagues and asked, “Are you ready to fight these MAGA a—holes?”

The colleague, Texas Rep. Colin Allred, a former NFL linebacker, gave Maloney a two-word response: “Let’s go.”

Maloney, who represents parts of Orange, Putnam and Westchester counties, was on the House floor as last week’s bloody siege on the Capitol began and recounted the chaotic attack on democracy in an interview with the Daily News on Tuesday.

“There were a few moments where we thought they would be inside the chamber at any moment,” Maloney said, recalling hearing tear gas canisters pop off outside the barricaded House doors. “We were ready for a fight. I think it was only later that we realized how many of them there were.”

In addition to Allred, Maloney said four other fellow Dems joined him in rolling up their sleeves to get ready for a fistfight when Capitol Police officers suddenly told them to put on gas masks and evacuate.
