He hits cop car, is hurt & arrested

-

A speeding Long Island motorist was busted for striking a police car and crashing into a nearby home in a fiery wreck — seriously wounding himself and the rookie officer, police said Saturday.

DaSean Player, 31, was zooming down Woods Road in North Babylon in a 2020 Nissan Pathfinder around 2 p.m. Friday when he blew past a stop sign and struck a marked Suffolk County police cruiser rolling down Elkton Lane.

The SUV careened off the police cruiser, slammed into the front of a nearby home and caught fire, cops said.

When first responders arrived, the fire had spread to the home. The small blaze was quickly put out and no residents were injured, police said.

Player, a resident of West Babylon, was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center with serious injuries.

SUV passenger Steven Glover tried to flee on foot, and spit and kicked at police — claiming he had COVID-19 — as they grabbed him.

The wounded rookie officer, who just joined the department a year ago, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, but was expected to survive, authorities said.

Player was hit with reckless-driving and numerous drug possession charges after cops found drugs in the SUV, police said.

Glover, 32, of Wyandanch, was also arrested on drug possession charges, and assault for fighting with arresting officers.

Both men had arrest warrants for violating parole, authorities said. Their arraignments were pending Saturday.
